Schaefer Looking to Get 1.7 to 1.8 Million PPV Buys from Mayweather-Ortiz Highly Unlikely
Funny thing about promoters is that they would normally overdo their math just to tell people that their client is interesting. This is simply what Richard Schaefer has done before the rather disappointing fight between Floyd Mayweather and Victor Ortiz that ended up in the most bizarre way possible.
Schaefer, head promoter of Golden Boy Promotions and the fight, claimed that they were expecting to get 1.7 to 1.8 million PPV buys for the fight. However, if the gate sales are any indication, they may be getting a lot lower than what Schaefer is expecting to get after the fight.
It was reported that even with a powerhouse lineup, with Erik Morales and Saul Canelo Alvarez in the undercard, the event failed to draw people into buying tickets and was not able to sell the place out.
