Marquez Meets Ramos Before Pacquiao Showdown

A high profile match has been set later this year between Juan Manuel Marquez and Manny Pacquiao, but for the former, there is one more obstacle to come across before the big night in November. This Sunday, Marquez is set to face the southpaw fighter Likar Ramos in Cancun, Mexico.

The fight will serve as a tune up match for Juan Manuel Marquez and a title defense at the same time, and it is quite obvious why he decided to pick Likar Ramos to be his opponent. He wants to make sure that he can practice fighting a southpaw in preparation for his big fight against Manny Pacquiao.

Marquez has been the only fighter, after all these years, who can freely say that he has Pac Man’s number. The two have fought twice in the past and both of the bouts ended in controversial fashions. Continue reading

The Scene of Boxing in the Philippines

It has been very evident that boxing Philippines fighters have become very dominant in the said sport over the last few years.

Manny Pacquiao, obviously, leads the pack of not only the Philippine boxing fighters, but in the whole world as well. He has been able to establish himself as one of the best boxers of all time by capturing eight world titles in eight different divisions, a feat that nobody else has been able to accomplish and nobody else has come close. He singlehandedly made the boxing Philippines scene a place to see as he trail blazed the path for other boxers to achieve excellence.

Boxing in the Philippines, of course, has always been big before Pacquiao. During the 90s, boxers like Luisito Espinosa (two division world champion) and Gerry Peñalosa (world super flyweight champion in multiple occasions) have been able to make names for themselves by winning world titles in their respective divisions. Pacquiao was still considered very green during those times but has been making noise already.

Today, boxing in the Philippines has gotten even more mainstream attention than it used to because of other champions that the country has produced. Nonito Donaire Jr is currently a three division world champion, being able to capture five world titles in three different weight classes. He holds both the WBC and WBO bantamweight world championship titles and currently ranked by The Ring as the number three pound-for-pound boxer in the world. Continue reading

Sports, Boxing, and Pacquiao

Everyone seems to want to try boxing Pacquiao, who is of course the number one pound-for-pound at the moment. In a recent interview with Victor Ortiz, he told reporters that after his fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr., people will not be talking about Pacquiao boxing Mayweather because he will be the one to go against the Fighting Congressman next.

In another recent news, Floyd Mayweather Jr stated that he wants to have a sports boxing Pacquiao bout, but of course not without his signature “take the test” slogan. In his press conference earlier this week, Mayweather was asked if he wants to face the current pound-for-pound king inside the ring and his answer was “absolutely”. He also went on to claiming that he never said Manny Pacquiao was cheating, using steroids, or any performance enhancing drugs. Continue reading

Pacquiao: Philippines No. 1 Sports Icon

The above title is basically true about Pacquiao Philippines. Nobody else in the country and around the world has been able to create the impact that Manny Pacquiao is doing right now in any sport. This is simply a rather big feat that the Philippines Pacquiao has been able to achieve, considering how all of these things he accomplished has started in the most basic and humble way.

I have previously stated in one of the articles here, and it has been very well documented how everything has started in his life. Being once a member of the financially struggling families in the Philippines, Pacquiao was able to destroy all barriers and come up with a way to get into what he is today.

Pacquiao Philippines words have become synonymous with each other if you go to other countries as he would normally be the first one to be mentioned in conversations, even first than the president of the country. He has been able to bring back a lot of people to having much interest with boxing that some would claim have become a stale body in sports. Continue reading

Mayweather to Fight a Southpaw but Not Pacquiao

It has been a couple of years since the taunting of Pacquiao-Mayweather fight has started but to no avail. Today, a bout was set for a Floyd Mayweather Jr versus Victor Ortiz for the WBC world welterweight title on September 17 but it seems people are still talking and more interested about a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight to happen.

We are not taking anything away from the Mayweather-Ortiz bout of course. The fight can still be considered a slobber knocker because after all, Ortiz is the champion and he has the skills and power to bring his opponents down to kiss the mat. Mayweather is still considered one of the best boxers today even though he has been inactive for 16 months, and everybody knows that the guy can fight as much as he can talk. Continue reading

Schaefer: $65 million Carlos Slim Offer, Not True

It appears that the previously reported $65 million offer by Carlos Slim to the pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao is false as Richard Schaefer, CEO ofGolden Boy Promotions, denied such deal.

Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is currently fighting under Golden Boy and Schaefer claims that there were no such talks between Carlos Slim and Manny Pacquiao as he states that he did not get any word for a possible fight from the billionaire and said he is close to the Slim people and even have direct contacts with Carlos Slim himself. Reasons to Love and Hate Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Floyd Mayweather Jr is one of the most colorful boxers in history. He was able to make a name for himself not only inside the boxing ring but also outside. The man has been a recipient of lots of criticisms lately due to the actions that he has done for the past couple of years, but you still hear people cheer for the man with the “Money” moniker.

There are several reasons to love the guy because after all, he is indeed one of the best. They are as follows:  Continue reading

The Boxer Pacquiao

boxer pacquiaoBoxer Pacquiao – We all know him as The Destroyer, The Mexicutioner, the People’s Champion, Pacman, and most recently, the Fighting Congressman, but does everyone know the man behind this Pacquiao boxer?

We all see him right now as one of the richest sports celebrity in the world, but if you look into his life, you will see that it was not always like that for him. He was born December 17, 1978, in the province of Bukidnon in the Philippines.

He came from a broken family when his father left them to live with another woman when he was in his sixth grade. That particular experience can be very devastating to anyone and it surely was for him. Due to poverty, Manny was not able to finish high school and decided to leave his home because he can’t bear to see his mother suffering, trying to raise six children all by herself.

The boxer Pacquiao came to culmination when he went to Manila at the age of 14. At first, he was just wandering through the streets of the urban city until he started boxing and was able to make it into the Philippine national amateur boxing team. His room and board were then paid for by the Philippine government and from there, he finds his niche. Continue reading
