Schaefer Looking to Get 1.7 to 1.8 Million PPV Buys from Mayweather-Ortiz Highly Unlikely
Funny thing about promoters is that they would normally overdo their math just to tell people that their client is interesting. This is simply what Richard Schaefer has done before the rather disappointing fight between Floyd Mayweather and Victor Ortiz that ended up in the most bizarre way possible.
Schaefer, head promoter of Golden Boy Promotions and the fight, claimed that they were expecting to get 1.7 to 1.8 million PPV buys for the fight. However, if the gate sales are any indication, they may be getting a lot lower than what Schaefer is expecting to get after the fight.
It was reported that even with a powerhouse lineup, with Erik Morales and Saul Canelo Alvarez in the undercard, the event failed to draw people into buying tickets and was not able to sell the place out. There were certainly empty seats for the said event, even though the price of the ticket was lowered down a week before the fight. Continue reading
Will the World Ever See a Mayweather-Pacquiao Fight?
Floyd Mayweather Jr is facing Victor Ortiz on Saturday, September 17, and this is his first fight in a very long time, but his confidence, as always, is simply off the roof. While Ortiz is no pushover and is currently the champion, many thought and still are thinking that he did this in preparation for a fight that everyone wants to see.
Ortiz is a southpaw fighter with great punching power. This is something similar to the current world’s number one pound-for-pound fighter Manny Pacquiao. Everyone, including Freddie Roach and Pac-Man himself, thinks he did this to prepare himself for a showdown against his rival Pacquiao.
Pacquiao is of course scheduled to fight his long time nemesis Juan Manuel Marquez in November, which was the first one to be announced than the Mayweather-Ortiz fight. Both Pacquiao and Mayweather are going to be inside the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, but much to the dismay of all boxing fans, the two are entering the arena in two separate dates. Continue reading
Floyd Asks America to Support Him
Controversial fighter Floyd Mayweather Jr shows his desperation as he pulls a “patriotic” meme to try to get more support for him against his yet-to-fight rival Manny Pacquiao.
In a recent interview with ESNNewsReporting.com, Mayweather said, “I’m an American citizen and I want the American citizens to stand behind me. If you are the best, step up and take the test. That’s all I’m saying. If you don’t have nothing to hide, take the test. I represent this country and I want this country to get behind me. There’s no country like America, so whoever’s facing Floyd Mayweather, tell them they have to step up and take the test.”
This is coming from a man who cannot seem to make up his mind on what he has truly said in past interviews, blatantly denies previous statements even when there are video footages to prove them, and just recently disrespected his country’s currency by burning a hundred dollar bill in an Atlanta night club and flaunted the burning money in front everyone, while cameras were rolling. He is also facing several criminal charges and a legal deposition from none other than Manny Pacquiao. Continue reading
November Knockouts, Promised by Both Pacquiao-Marquez Camps
Confidence is definitely booming in the Pacquiao camp as Roach promises that there will be a knockout come November 12. Freddie Roach, who missed the first part of the press tour “Sometimes When We Tour”, definitely is not out of words and made his presence felt.
Roach has been the long time trainer of some of the great fighter that we see today, and he proclaimed to the world that Manny Pacquiao will bring his old time foe Juan Manuel Marquez down to the canvass for the ten count and finally dropping El Dinamita’s claims down with him.
Roach gives his thoughts on the difference between this coming fight and the previous fights that they had. He sees things differently as Pacquaio was definitely young during the first two bouts and how Pac-Man is a changed man after getting his 8th world title in eight divisions.
It should be remembered that both fights that Pacquiao and Marquez had were met with controversial endings. The first bout was announced as a draw, but later revealed that one of the judges had an error with the scorecards while the second bout met lots of criticisms as a lot of fans thought the fight belonged to Marquez, but Pacquaio came out on top. Sometimes When Pacquiao and Marquez Tour

Top Rank, the promoter handling the Pacquiao-Marquez match set for November, together with MP Promotions, Marquez Boxing, Tecate, and MGM Grand, are doing all the right things to hype up the fight and make it interesting to fans. They setup a world tour for the said bout that kicked off in the Philippines last September 3, before Pac-Man’s game show “Manny ManyPrizes”.
So far, they are doing much better in promoting the November fight compared to the fight this month between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Victor Ortiz. At this moment, the promotional tour dubbed as “Sometimes When We Tour” is already in Mexico City, which should have tons of Marquez supporters. Continue reading
Manny Pacquaio Starts Training for November
Manny Pacquiao’s fight will not be until November, but he and his team already decided that he should start training.
Naturally, nobody will know exactly what his strategies are going into the fight against the boxer who gave him the hardest time in his boxing career Juan Manuel Marquez, but everyone can expect that he will put everything on the line to make sure that he gets to shut up is old rival. Unless you are living under a rock, Marquez had two previous fights against the eight division world champion, and both of which did not finish without any controversies.
The first fight between the two saw a draw, which Pacquiao’s team disputed as Marquez fell 2 times early in the fight, where one of the judges admitted later on that he made a mistake and was not able to award Pacquiao the mandatory score, which would have made Pacquiao the victor in their first meeting. Incidentally, Marquez was also disputing that he should have won all rounds and that he was robbed. Continue reading
Pacquiao-Marquez, More Popular than Mayweather-Ortiz
In just a couple more days, September will be coming, and this only means that the Mayweather-Ortiz fight is also on its way, but for some reason, people would rather talk about a fight that is not happening until November.
It should be remembered that early this year, right after his match against Shane Mosley, fans and critics were hoping against hope that Manny Pacquiao would finally face one Floyd Mayweather in a dream match to test who really is the king of the boxing ring. Continue reading
Mayweather-Ortiz not Making Much Noise
For someone who claims to be the best fighter of all time, Floyd “Money” Mayweather cannot seem to create enough buzz for his fight against Victor Ortiz on September 17. In the last several weeks, Mayweather singlehandedly took all interests out of the window as he would rather make controversies for himself than make his fight with Ortiz look relevant.
Surely, this would be the very first fight that Mayweather is having after more than a year of hiatus from the sweet science. That alone should generate interests already, but due to Mayweather’s rather disappointing life, he is failing to get people’s attention to the match because they would rather check what he would do next to top his dollar burning antics. Manny Pacquiao Partners with Target, Release Own Line of Darts
If you do not know it yet, 8-division champion and world’s number 1 pound-for-pound boxer Manny Pacquiao is a huge darts enthusiast, and a couple of months ago, he announced an exclusive deal with UK-based Target Darts to create specially designed darts for him.
Manny Pacquiao is working exclusively with the Target Darts company to produce his own range of soft and steel-tip darts, flights, surrounds, and bristle and soft-tip dart boards, and they have launched the product yesterday at the Midas Hotel, Pasay City, Philippines.
It should be remembered that the deal was made as of last April, which includes darts pack for both children and adults. The Family Pack dart set is part of the champ’s quest to improve numeracy amongst children through playing darts, and it is a part of an educational program to help support enhanced math skills in the country.
This Family Pack contains Pac Man’s branded paper board that comes with two sets of his branded darts. It also includes a Pacquiao poster sized sticker set and a dart board surround sticker, which should work best for all of the young Pacquiao fans out there. Continue reading
First Round KO: Marquez ‘Retains’ His Pacquiao Match
The November fight is on after Juan Manuel Marquez defeated Likar Ramos to retain his chances of fighting Manny Pacquiao later this year. It was clearly stated in his contract that if Marquez loses his “tune-up” fight against Ramos, he will have to forget that he ever landed a deal to face Pacquiao for the third, and probably, final time.
The fight was supposed to be to prepare Marquez in his fight against Pac Man. Ramos was a southpaw fighter that Marquez’s camp has handpicked so he could have a better feel of fighting left handed boxers, obviously to create situations and strategies come fight night against the pound-for-pound king, but with the bout lasting less than 3 minutes, one can only guess if the fight was truly a tune-up match or simply a play-safe bet.
