Pacquiao-Marquez, More Popular than Mayweather-Ortiz

In just a couple more days, September will be coming, and this only means that the Mayweather-Ortiz fight is also on its way, but for some reason, people would rather talk about a fight that is not happening until November.

It should be remembered that early this year, right after his match against Shane Mosley, fans and critics were hoping against hope that Manny Pacquiao would finally face one Floyd Mayweather in a dream match to test who really is the king of the boxing ring. Continue reading

Mayweather-Ortiz not Making Much Noise

For someone who claims to be the best fighter of all time, Floyd “Money” Mayweather cannot seem to create enough buzz for his fight against Victor Ortiz on September 17. In the last several weeks, Mayweather singlehandedly took all interests out of the window as he would rather make controversies for himself than make his fight with Ortiz look relevant.

Surely, this would be the very first fight that Mayweather is having after more than a year of hiatus from the sweet science. That alone should generate interests already, but due to Mayweather’s rather disappointing life, he is failing to get people’s attention to the match because they would rather check what he would do next to top his dollar burning antics. Manny Pacquiao Partners with Target, Release Own Line of Darts

If you do not know it yet, 8-division champion and world’s number 1 pound-for-pound boxer Manny Pacquiao is a huge darts enthusiast, and a couple of months ago, he announced an exclusive deal with UK-based Target Darts to create specially designed darts for him.

Manny Pacquiao is working exclusively with the Target Darts company to produce his own range of soft and steel-tip darts, flights, surrounds, and bristle and soft-tip dart boards, and they have launched the product yesterday at the Midas Hotel, Pasay City, Philippines.

It should be remembered that the deal was made as of last April, which includes darts pack for both children and adults. The Family Pack dart set is part of the champ’s quest to improve numeracy amongst children through playing darts, and it is a part of an educational program to help support enhanced math skills in the country.

This Family Pack contains Pac Man’s branded paper board that comes with two sets of his branded darts. It also includes a Pacquiao poster sized sticker set and a dart board surround sticker, which should work best for all of the young Pacquiao fans out there. Continue reading

Denver Cuello Joins Canelo Promotions

The future is looking bright for Denver Cuello as he signs a deal with Canelo Promotions to handle his fights in the future. Cuello is still young at age 24, but this current deal with Canelo Promotions should help boost up his already high rankings in the world and add some more titles together with his WBC International minimumweight championship.

Cuello and Canelo Promotions is currently looking into the possibility of securing a deal with Ganigan López (18 wins, 12 via KO and 4 losses) in Mexico. They are trying to get the 15th of October for the spectacular bout between the two. Continue reading

Donaire Sure to Fight, Date Likely to be Moved

The date November 5, which was announced to be the next fight night of the WBO and WBC bantamweight world champion Nonito Donaire Jr (28-1-0, 18KOs) will likely to get rescheduled as “The Filipino Flash” stated in one interview.

It would be remembered that Donaire’s last match was February of this year against Fernando Montiel on a highly breathtaking 2nd round technical knockout and had a very long hiatus from the ring due to some contractual issues with his current promotion Top Rank.

The bout will now be on October 22, which looks to be more favorable for the champ. Donaire is set to have a church wedding on November 11, 2011 (11/11/11), and with the date getting moved to October, preparations for his wedding will surely push through. Continue reading

Mexico Vs Philippines in Pinoy Pride VIII

Mexico and Philippines will have another showdown on September 10 at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino in Cebu for the Pinoy Pride VIII: Philippines vs Mexico.

The event will feature three Filipino boxers going up against three Mexican fighters that is promoted by ALA Promotions, headed by Michael Aldeguer. The main event will have Francisco “Chiquita” Rosas (22-8-2, 13 KOs) of Oaxaca Mexico as he tries to take the WBO flyweight intercontinental championship from the undefeated Milan Melindo (24-0, 8 KO’s)

Rosas is simply not a boxer to be pushed around. He has the experience to go toe to toe with Melindo as he faced Nicaraguan Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez, Argentinean Juan Carlos Reveco, and champion Edgar Sosa in the past. With all these experiences under his resume, the fight against Melindo can be expected as a great match to watch. Continue reading

Donaire Finally Fights in November

The promotional issues have been resolved and a new contract has been signed. Right now, nothing can stop Nonito Donaire from getting his fights and defending his bantamweight titles.

Top Ranks has set a date for November 5 as Todd duBoef reports ESPN. HBO has been reportedly given its interest to back the fight up, despite its fourth-quarter budget a little bit off. This could also become Donaire’s last fight in the bantamweight division before he moves up to junior featherweight.

This would simply mean that Donaire will be fighting on a date that is sandwiched between two fights of two prime fighters of our time, Mayweather facing Ortiz on September and Pacquiao against Marquez a week after his fight, which the latter, of course, Top Rank is also promoting. Froilan Saludar Earns a New Title

It was a great night for Froilan Saludar as “The Sniper” bagged the WBO Asia Pacific flyweight title, taking it from Gabriel Pumar. Saludar moves to the ranks with 13 wins, with 10 by way of knockout, 1 draw, and no loss under his name. Pumar, on the other hand, gets his seventh professional lost at the Island Cove Hotel and Leisure Park in Kawit, Cavite last Saturday, August 6, 2011.

The fight was a series of exchange from the two fighters from the first bell up to the tenth round, where the two boxers showed that they both wanted the title. Pumar even showed that he has the ability to stand toe to toe with Saludar as he connected solid punches in the middle of the bout.

The Japan-based fighter showed that he is simply not someone to be pushed around as he tenaciously showed his boxing prowess and refused to back down from every punch that Saludar gave him, giving his own barrage of punches towards the Sniper as well. Continue reading

Peñalosa Dropped Kiatpracha in the Third

Dodie Boy Peñalosa Jr listed yet another victory under his name and kept his winning streak going as he decisively stopped his Thai opponent Kong Kiatpracha Gym in just three rounds of fight.

Dodie Boy Jr, nephew of the two-time world champion Gerry Peñalosa, has easily ended the night with a technical knockout victory. Peñalosa gave the Thai boxer series of punches right from the opening bell. Most of his hooks to the body and head went unanswered and the sharp, right hook to the ribs in the third round made Kiatpracha drop down to the canvass. Continue reading

Peñalosa Ready for a Fist Fight

Dodie Boy Peñalosa Jr is looking to extend his winning ways as he faces Kong Kiatpracha Gym of Thailand. This could be Peñalosa’s ticket to the big leagues if he beats his Thai opponent, but the task is easier said than done.

So far, Peñalosa is undefeated in five fights and his bout with Kiatpracha will be his first time facing a foreign opponent. Dodie Boy Sr, Peñalosa’s father, is hoping for a very decisive victory from the young boxer so they can look into the possibility of having Peñalosa to fight in the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao fight this November.
