Just recently, Nonito Donaire Jr was able to bag the WBO superbantamweight title over Wilfredo Vasquez Jr and prove again that he belongs to the great boxers that we have today. He was able to win a split decision after 12 rounds of boxing, but the news got serious when after the bout and after the gloves was removed, there were bloodstains on Donaire’s right hand and his left hand is swollen.

It was believed that the damage to his hands was the result of him pummeling Vasquez. He said he hurt his hands between second and fourth round, but still able to stagger Vasquez in the ninth round that brought his opponent down to the mat for the count.

After the match, he went to the doctors and had an MRI on his hands. It was reported that his hands did not have any major injuries, and it looks like no delays will occur for his next fight, which will be against former WBO superbantamweight champion Jorge Arce.

A while ago while I was browsing through other boxing news, I got to this online shop boxxerworld.com which sells great stuff such as mma shorts, boxing shorts, jackets, beanies and caps. I just couldn’t resist it and I went to buy boxing shorts.

Take a look at what I got! Great Stuff!

Funny thing about promoters is that they would normally overdo their math just to tell people that their client is interesting. This is simply what Richard Schaefer has done before the rather disappointing fight between Floyd Mayweather and Victor Ortiz that ended up in the most bizarre way possible.

Schaefer, head promoter of Golden Boy Promotions and the fight, claimed that they were expecting to get 1.7 to 1.8 million PPV buys for the fight. However, if the gate sales are any indication, they may be getting a lot lower than what Schaefer is expecting to get after the fight.

It was reported that even with a powerhouse lineup, with Erik Morales and Saul Canelo Alvarez in the undercard, the event failed to draw people into buying tickets and was not able to sell the place out. There were certainly empty seats for the said event, even though the price of the ticket was lowered down a week before the fight.

While the PPV buy rates are not yet out, it is already safe to assume that Mayweather’s “Star Power” is not as bright as it used to be as he failed to sell all tickets to the said event, even after turning his reality show into a soap opera in HBO, literally burning money for no reason, his shenanigans during press conference, and using Pacquiao’s name to get attention.

Of course, you cannot expect anything less from Bob Arum as he is known to bend the truth as well, but even though the fight is not happening until 2 months from now, Pacquiao-Marquez III has already sold out in ticket sales and reportedly already selling 3 times the price in secondary market.

If the PPV buys do not reach the numbers that Schaefer has predicted, we may still be able to see a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight if what Floyd claims is true that he loves money because it will only be the only fight that can get him enough to pay for his lawyers and possible bails in the future.

The bell has rung, the fight has started, and after four rounds, the fight was finished in a bizarre way, and we have a new world champion who got booed out of the building. The fight went on as everyone kind of expected as Floyd Mayweather won in the 4th round against his opponent Victor Ortiz, who got caught by a left and right hand combination. The combination, however, is controversial as Ortiz was trying to talk to Mayweather after a head butt incident.

The fight started off with the first three rounds being slightly matched, but all Mayweather in points as Ortiz struggled to defend himself from Mayweather’s punches. In the earlier rounds, Mayweather went for his patented shoulder roll that got Ortiz stunned as he failed to deliver heavy punches and Floyd would sometimes be seen shaking his head out of disapproval.

The fourth round saw Victor Ortiz showing life as he went inside and given some flurries that went unanswered. It looked like Ortiz would finally have a solution to Mayweather with some inside shots and better footwork to send Floyd into the corner, until Ortiz looked to intentionally deliver a head butt onto Mayweather’s face later in the round.

The referee called for a time out and told the judges to deduct points from Ortiz, and it was evident that Mayweather got upset as he started mouthing off Victor for the blatant head butt that could have knocked him out if it went in. During the time out, Ortiz tried to get near Mayweather to apologize and gave him an apologetic hug before going back to his corner.

In one of the most confusing and disappointing finishes in boxing history, Ortiz went straight to Mayweather, who was still in apology mode and tried to hug Mayweather again. After a step backwards while talking to the referee, Mayweather delivered his left and right combination to an unprepared Ortiz, with both hands still on his waist, which sent him straight to the canvass for the ten count.

It looked as though Mayweather gave Ortiz a cheap shot as he took advantage of a guilty Ortiz, but boxing is a blood sport and you just cannot let your guard down at any situation. Kudos to Ortiz for being apologetic and manning up for a mistake, but Floyd saw an opening and took it. In a normal setup, people would expect Mayweather to step backwards since the situation was coming off from a time out, but he did not and took advantage of the opportunity.

This is quite the opposite in the Pacquiao-Mosley fight where Pac-Man touched gloves all night and treated Mosley as his friend. If ever God allowed it to happen and a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight becomes possible, Pacquiao needs to be in fighting mode to get a win over the undefeated champion. We can all hope that the fight will finally happen, but until Pacquiao gives in to the demands and Mayweather stops giving his unlimited and ridiculous requirements, we will never see it, not even if their lives depend on it.

Floyd Mayweather Jr is facing Victor Ortiz on Saturday, September 17, and this is his first fight in a very long time, but his confidence, as always, is simply off the roof. While Ortiz is no pushover and is currently the champion, many thought and still are thinking that he did this in preparation for a fight that everyone wants to see.

Ortiz is a southpaw fighter with great punching power. This is something similar to the current world’s number one pound-for-pound fighter Manny Pacquiao. Everyone, including Freddie Roach and Pac-Man himself, thinks he did this to prepare himself for a showdown against his rival Pacquiao.

Pacquiao is of course scheduled to fight his long time nemesis Juan Manuel Marquez in November, which was the first one to be announced than the Mayweather-Ortiz fight. Both Pacquiao and Mayweather are going to be inside the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, but much to the dismay of all boxing fans, the two are entering the arena in two separate dates.

If both Mayweather and Pacquiao come out victorious with their respected fights, people will definitely start another rally towards the two finally facing each other inside a boxing ring. This is, of course, yet to be determined as both fighters are facing tough opponents. Victor Ortiz has the ability to knock people down while Marquez is undeniably a future hall of famer.

It should be remembered that the drama all started when Mayweather Sr decided to run his mouth and accused Pacquiao of using performance enhancing drugs (PEDs), which later on, Mayweather Jr started to believe and told everyone that he will only face Manny if he takes the comprehensive random blood test all the way up to the fight and one after the fight (Floyd made it into his only retort whenever asked about Pacquiao), which is something that no commission in the world requires right now.

Pacquiao originally turned it down as he believes it takes a toll on his body whenever blood is taken from him, but later accepted the terms, which Floyd decided to brush off. Fans from both sides have simply debated and thrown insults at each other and their favorite boxers, but we are still yet to see the fight from even getting up to 50% sure to happen.

Mayweather, after Pacquiao agrees to the blood tests, decided to add another “requirement”, which is Pacquiao needs to train in the US and all testing be done in the US alone. This is quite impossible as Pacquiao is currently an elected public official in the Philippines and he trains for around 2–3 months.

There is still hope for boxing fans to see this fight; however, Top Rank’s Bob Arum has said in an interview that they are not going to run after Floyd. If Mayweather really wants the fight, then it will happen. If not, the sun would still come up the next day. With Manny looking into more public office positions, the chances of this ever happening is quite slim as Pacquiao stated he is giving Floyd only 1 year to decide.

Controversial fighter Floyd Mayweather Jr shows his desperation as he pulls a “patriotic” meme to try to get more support for him against his yet-to-fight rival Manny Pacquiao.

In a recent interview with ESNNewsReporting.com, Mayweather said, “I’m an American citizen and I want the American citizens to stand behind me. If you are the best, step up and take the test. That’s all I’m saying. If you don’t have nothing to hide, take the test. I represent this country and I want this country to get behind me. There’s no country like America, so whoever’s facing Floyd Mayweather, tell them they have to step up and take the test.”

This is coming from a man who cannot seem to make up his mind on what he has truly said in past interviews, blatantly denies previous statements even when there are video footages to prove them, and just recently disrespected his country’s currency by burning a hundred dollar bill in an Atlanta night club and flaunted the burning money in front everyone, while cameras were rolling. He is also facing several criminal charges and a legal deposition from none other than Manny Pacquiao.

It has been quite obvious over the course of his career that Mayweather will try to do anything to get noticed by the public, but this is basically the first time that he actually asks for help from his fellow Americans for support, when at one point, he said he only cares for himself, not the media nor the fans.

This all boils down to the fact that most people would rather talk about a fight that is not happening until 2 months from now compared to a fight this coming Saturday. It is rather obvious that Floyd cannot out-PR Pacquiao at this point even if his life and entire savings depended on it so he decided to make it a “race war” where an American is going against a Filipino. What is even more disappointing is the fact that the road between the two is blurrier than a sandstorm in a wasteland.

Yuriorkis is just fresh from his 8-round technical decision over a former champion Daniel Ponce de Leon, and he is oozing with confidence when he said he wants to face Pacquiao down the line. He wants to have a chance to show what he got, and he wants to do it against the current number one fighter in the world.

However, critics are saying that during his fight with Ponce de Leon, he was not able to show his usual electric performance against the veteran. Everyone at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City was expecting to see a hard hitting fight but Ponce de Leon has somehow controlled the pace, even on a losing rally.

Gamboa was still able to show his hand speed and was able to rock Ponce hard, but he failed to bring his opponent down to the mat. The 8th round saw an accidental head butt between the two fighters where de Leon got the most of it that made the referee call for the bell and go to the scorecards. Two judges scored the bout 70-63, while the third one 69-64, all in favor of Gamboa.

At this point, everything seems to be a blurry for Gamboa to be able to face the Filipino champion. While he did well with his fight against Ponce de Leon, he was not able to dominate the fight and was at times dancing to de Leon’s tune. It is also quite a long shot as Pacquiao is four weight classes away from him, and it would be quite difficult for him jump to welterweight immediately.

Arum expects to get the huge Filipino community in the East Coast to come out and support Donaire and also aims to get people in the eastern parts of the US to get to know the Filipino fighter more and show what he can do inside the squared circle.

The Theatre can hold up to six thousand people and Arum expects that the whole place will be sold out. He also plans to get the undercard beefed up to make sure that they will be able to build more interests for the card and get more people to watch the event.

It should be noted that Donaire has not been fighting for 8 months due to miscommunication and controversies regarding his contract with Top Tank. He even signed a contract with Top Rank’s rival Golden Boy Promotions that made things worse for the Filipino champion. After a few months of negotiations and a retired judge’s advice, Donaire finally went back to Top Rank to have a better business relationship with the promotion.

Donaire’s last fight was with Fernando Montiel, where he won both his WBO and WBC bantamweight titles. He has not been active ever since, but Arum confirms that we will all be able to see Donaire on television as HBO picked up the fight to televise it live and will be paired together with the initial offering of the Pacquiao- Marquez 24/7 series.

Freddie Roach, who missed the first part of the press tour “Sometimes When We Tour”, definitely is not out of words and made his presence felt.

Roach has been the long time trainer of some of the great fighter that we see today, and he proclaimed to the world that Manny Pacquiao will bring his old time foe Juan Manuel Marquez down to the canvass for the ten count and finally dropping El Dinamita’s claims down with him.

Roach gives his thoughts on the difference between this coming fight and the previous fights that they had. He sees things differently as Pacquaio was definitely young during the first two bouts and how Pac-Man is a changed man after getting his 8th world title in eight divisions.

It should be remembered that both fights that Pacquiao and Marquez had were met with controversial endings. The first bout was announced as a draw, but later revealed that one of the judges had an error with the scorecards while the second bout met lots of criticisms as a lot of fans thought the fight belonged to Marquez, but Pacquaio came out on top.

Marquez, on previous interviews, acknowledges the fact that indeed, Pacquiao is not the same fighter that he fought before and he somehow became ambidextrous when it comes to punching power, but El Dinamita does not think it will be a factor as he vows to use the same strategy that he used in their last two outings.

Marquez claims that he will also go for a knockout as he does not have faith on the judges anymore. Marquez, for the last several years, have been claiming to the world that he has beaten Pacquiao in both of their previous fights and even wearing a shirt that reads “I beat Pacquiao twice” during his fight last November.

Top Rank, the promoter handling the Pacquiao-Marquez match set for November, together with MP Promotions, Marquez Boxing, Tecate, and MGM Grand, are doing all the right things to hype up the fight and make it interesting to fans. They setup a world tour for the said bout that kicked off in the Philippines last September 3, before Pac-Man’s game show “Manny ManyPrizes”.

So far, they are doing much better in promoting the November fight compared to the fight this month between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Victor Ortiz. At this moment, the promotional tour dubbed as “Sometimes When We Tour” is already in Mexico City, which should have tons of Marquez supporters.

It should be expected that the fight will sellout in pay-per-view buys come November, while the gate sales was already reported sold out, as many believes that the fight, while looking like mismatch on paper, will still be great to watch. For the Marquez fans, this would mean redemption to the lost he had in their last fight and prove that Marquez is indeed the better fighter, while Pac-Man’s fans will be looking forward to see Pacquiao shut the Mexican up once and for all.

The kickoff was well received as the event attracted 70,000 strong at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila, Philippines. Fighters, as well as their promoters Bob Arum and Fernando Beltran, addressed the audience and answered questions from the media and fans. After the said event, Pacquiao stayed to host his weekly game show, “Manny Many Prizes.”

The former five-time world champion Shane Mosley is looking for another big match as he looks into the possibility of fighting whomever comes out on top of the Cotto-Margarito II showdown.

Miguel Cotto is currently the WBA junior middleweight champion while Antonio Margarito was a former champion. The two squared off a couple of years ago where the world saw Margarito walked out as the victor. Cotto has been trying to chase down Margarito for some time now to get his revenge on the said loss.

It should be remembered that both fighters fought the current world’s number one pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao, both received losses and suffered fierce combos from the welterweight champ. Margarito even had doubts if he could make a comeback due to the infection on his right eye that almost cost him his career.

The fight is huge for both men. Cotto is looking for redemption to avenge his loss while Margarito is looking for a way to prove to the world that he can still stand toe-to-toe with the strong punchers after he got humbled and almost went blind in his last match.

Mosley was also one of the victims of Pac-Man and is looking to prove that he still got it after his lackluster performance in his last fight. Of course, Cotto and Margarito are no walk in the park. Mosley will have to be his old self if he wants to come out victorious on any of the two.
