Schaefer Looking to Get 1.7 to 1.8 Million PPV Buys from Mayweather-Ortiz Highly Unlikely

Funny thing about promoters is that they would normally overdo their math just to tell people that their client is interesting. This is simply what Richard Schaefer has done before the rather disappointing fight between Floyd Mayweather and Victor Ortiz that ended up in the most bizarre way possible.

Schaefer, head promoter of Golden Boy Promotions and the fight, claimed that they were expecting to get 1.7 to 1.8 million PPV buys for the fight. However, if the gate sales are any indication, they may be getting a lot lower than what Schaefer is expecting to get after the fight.

It was reported that even with a powerhouse lineup, with Erik Morales and Saul Canelo Alvarez in the undercard, the event failed to draw people into buying tickets and was not able to sell the place out. There were certainly empty seats for the said event, even though the price of the ticket was lowered down a week before the fight. Continue reading

Mayweather Won in 4th Round with a Controversial Combo

The bell has rung, the fight has started, and after four rounds, the fight was finished in a bizarre way, and we have a new world champion who got booed out of the building. The fight went on as everyone kind of expected as Floyd Mayweather won in the 4th round against his opponent Victor Ortiz, who got caught by a left and right hand combination. The combination, however, is controversial as Ortiz was trying to talk to Mayweather after a head butt incident.

The fight started off with the first three rounds being slightly matched, but all Mayweather in points as Ortiz struggled to defend himself from Mayweather’s punches. In the earlier rounds, Mayweather went for his patented shoulder roll that got Ortiz stunned as he failed to deliver heavy punches and Floyd would sometimes be seen shaking his head out of disapproval.

The fourth round saw Victor Ortiz showing life as he went inside and given some flurries that went unanswered. It looked like Ortiz would finally have a solution to Mayweather with some inside shots and better footwork to send Floyd into the corner, until Ortiz looked to intentionally deliver a head butt onto Mayweather’s face later in the round. Will the World Ever See a Mayweather-Pacquiao Fight?

Floyd Mayweather Jr is facing Victor Ortiz on Saturday, September 17, and this is his first fight in a very long time, but his confidence, as always, is simply off the roof. While Ortiz is no pushover and is currently the champion, many thought and still are thinking that he did this in preparation for a fight that everyone wants to see.

Ortiz is a southpaw fighter with great punching power. This is something similar to the current world’s number one pound-for-pound fighter Manny Pacquiao. Everyone, including Freddie Roach and Pac-Man himself, thinks he did this to prepare himself for a showdown against his rival Pacquiao.

Pacquiao is of course scheduled to fight his long time nemesis Juan Manuel Marquez in November, which was the first one to be announced than the Mayweather-Ortiz fight. Both Pacquiao and Mayweather are going to be inside the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, but much to the dismay of all boxing fans, the two are entering the arena in two separate dates. Continue reading

Floyd Asks America to Support Him

Controversial fighter Floyd Mayweather Jr shows his desperation as he pulls a “patriotic” meme to try to get more support for him against his yet-to-fight rival Manny Pacquiao.

In a recent interview with ESNNewsReporting.com, Mayweather said, “I’m an American citizen and I want the American citizens to stand behind me. If you are the best, step up and take the test. That’s all I’m saying. If you don’t have nothing to hide, take the test. I represent this country and I want this country to get behind me. There’s no country like America, so whoever’s facing Floyd Mayweather, tell them they have to step up and take the test.”

This is coming from a man who cannot seem to make up his mind on what he has truly said in past interviews, blatantly denies previous statements even when there are video footages to prove them, and just recently disrespected his country’s currency by burning a hundred dollar bill in an Atlanta night club and flaunted the burning money in front everyone, while cameras were rolling. He is also facing several criminal charges and a legal deposition from none other than Manny Pacquiao. Continue reading

Pacquiao-Marquez, More Popular than Mayweather-Ortiz

In just a couple more days, September will be coming, and this only means that the Mayweather-Ortiz fight is also on its way, but for some reason, people would rather talk about a fight that is not happening until November.

It should be remembered that early this year, right after his match against Shane Mosley, fans and critics were hoping against hope that Manny Pacquiao would finally face one Floyd Mayweather in a dream match to test who really is the king of the boxing ring. Continue reading

Mayweather to Fight a Southpaw but Not Pacquiao

It has been a couple of years since the taunting of Pacquiao-Mayweather fight has started but to no avail. Today, a bout was set for a Floyd Mayweather Jr versus Victor Ortiz for the WBC world welterweight title on September 17 but it seems people are still talking and more interested about a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight to happen.

We are not taking anything away from the Mayweather-Ortiz bout of course. The fight can still be considered a slobber knocker because after all, Ortiz is the champion and he has the skills and power to bring his opponents down to kiss the mat. Mayweather is still considered one of the best boxers today even though he has been inactive for 16 months, and everybody knows that the guy can fight as much as he can talk. Continue reading

Pacquiao to Fight for $65 Million Purse?

Manny Pacquiao may have gotten his biggest payoff yet, with Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim offering the pound-for-pound king $65 million to fight an opponent of his choosing in Mexico in 2012.

The probabilities are high that Carlos Slim would choose Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, who is currently the WBC light middleweight champion under Golden Boy and considered to be the top welterweight prospect.

Carlos Slim currently ranks as world’s number one by Forbes in the wealthiest people in the world. He can certainly make things happen if this would push through. Continue reading

Floyd Mayweather Jr is one of the most colorful boxers in history. He was able to make a name for himself not only inside the boxing ring but also outside. There are several reasons to love the guy because after all, he is indeed one of the best. They are as follows:  Continue reading

Pacquiao vs Marquez 3 Finalized, Critics See Differently

Boxing champ Manny Pacquiao is set to fight Juan Manuel Marquez on November 12, 2011, as the trilogy finally takes place between the two fighters. Marquez, who is the current WBA, WBO and Ring Magazine lightweight champion, has previously fought Pacquiao in the most controversial manner, resulting for the former to keep on going after the latter.

For the Pacquiao fans, this is an inevitable bout as Pacman needs to prove his dominance against the Mexican fighter, while Marquez’s fans are simply thrilled to finally get what they want.

However, critics from fans and media have all stated different opinions about the November clash. Some says that it would be a complete mismatch as Marquez will be fighting on a catch weight of 145 lb, a weight class that proved Marquez not comfortable with after losing to Floyd Mayweather Jr a couple of years back. This was one of those rare mornings that has ever been. Every morning, as soon as my eyes open, I grab my Ipod to check out the latest news in Pacland! Well guess what, it’s been hours after the deadline but Mr. Mayweather was a no show as expected. Do you think Mayweather would just come in and sign the contract upon Bob Arum’s request? Of course he wouldn’t! It would just Continue reading
