Fernando Montiel vs Rafael Concepcion Fight Result: Montiel wins by 3rd round TKO

Montiel once again proved his abilities after beating Concepcion hours ago via 3rd round TKO. Now it’s time for promoters to setup a fight between Donaire and Montiel. Being a Filipino, I’d definitely route for Donaire but after seeing Montiel fight his last 3,4 or 5 fights, Man! Montiel is definitely someone to be scared of in his weight division. Yes, Montiel was definitely beaten by Z Gorres years back but then still he was gifted a win via decision (a fight which should’ve been a win by Z Gorres). After that fight, Montiel definitely came back with vengeance and he really improved his skills. I love seeing those double hooks he throws to the head and body (they’re definitely paralizing!). A Donaire and Montiel fight is something to be excited about by boxing fans! I’d definitely love to see this fight more than a rematch between Cotto and Pacquiao. This would be the toughest fight for both fighters! Donaire would surely use his height, speed and reach advantage while battle-tested Montiel would use his power and experience to catch and hurt Donaire. I’d give Nonito a slight edge because of his speed and height. Definitely, some of those lightning quick punches would catch Montiel’s face or body. If you’ll look at the two fighters, you would think that Donaire is quicker but if you look closely, Montiel’s hands are also quick. Donaire might be quicker on his feet but Montiel has same handspeed as Nonito or even a split second faster. Montiel’s hand speed are almost comparable to Juan Manuel Marquez’s hand speed. They almost have the same style – they don’t show much foot movement but they’re both quick with their hands and their both counterpunchers. So boxing fans, brace for this fight and let’s hope that it happens. We’ve are now being deprived of the fight between the two greatest boxers – Pacquiao and Mayweather. Hopefully, promoters wouldn’t steal this Donaire-Montiel fight from us fans! Also to the fighters, no chicken run please! Peace!

Philippines vs Puerto Rico

Last Sunday was not quite a good day for Philippine Boxing. Thanks too Nonito “The Flash” for saving the day. I screamed in awe when I saw Bernabe Concepcion hit JuanMa flush in the jaw. I simply thought that it would be a turn around of events after Concepcion has been battered in the first round. In the second round it just showed that there’s really no chance of Concepcion beating the Monster JuanMa. It was an expected result though but I just thought that he’d get lucky. Almost Bernabe… Almost!

Another fight that day that turned disappointing was Eden Sonsona’s fight with Jonathan Oquendo. I thought that Sonsona would get through all the way, but the opponent’s dirty tactics simply prevailed. It was such a disgust and this fighter should be banned from boxing or perhaps he shouldn’t be credited for the win. It was also bad officiating by the referee who was biased on his puerto rican bet. It’s such a shame!

Nonito’s moves was such a beauty watch. It showed all his masterful moves and it shows that he truly is one of the most talented fighters out there. It’s just time that he should be given more attention and he should be lined up for greater opponents to prove his skill. No doubt he’s a great fighter, but for him to seal his legacy, he must be given the opportunity to show these against top notch fighters. Hopefully Top Rank would give him more opportunities. Just imagine, a less skilled fighter like Berbabe would be matched against a top fighter like JuanMa. Concepcion was given a big break, while Nonito on the other hand with all these skills is not given a chance to fight highly skilled opponents. No doubt Bernabe has the skills, but he’s in no way comparable to the likes of JuanMa and Nonito.

Love this picture I’ve seen over the internet a few months back especially that picture of Oscar Dela Hoya sitting on he’s stool! Just imagine the Lil’ mighty congressman from Sarangani Philippines banging up all these guys at the same time! LOL!

Who is Moruthi Mthalane?

A while ago I got to watch the tape of the fight between Moruti Mthalane and Hussein Hussein. The fight was kinda lopsided since Mthalane dominated the whole fight. Mthalane throwed a lot of combinations with a lot of speed and pinpoint accuracy which gave Hussein a boxing lesson. Mthalane hit his opponent in the head and the body. He also has a lot of head movement which makes him hard to hit. He’s defense is also tough and he always covers his face with his gloves. Whenever Hussein hits him on the body, his elbows are always there to absorb the punches. One thing I noticed is that he’s not a hard hitter although he throws bushels of punches and he swarms his opponent even though his opponent is 2 to 3 inches taller. This gave me a glimpse of what the “Baby Face” Moruti Mthalane can bring in the ring. At first, I thought that it would be an easy fight for Donaire but after seeing the tape of Mthalane’s previous fight, I can tell you, we can expect a good, competetive fight this coming November 1st.
